Eucharis amazonica

(synonym: Eucharis grandiflora)

A bulbous plant that originates from Columbia in South America this bulb has made Kalimpong its home and grows happily inspite of the heavy monsoon rains. Of course it requires a well drained position to prevent water logging.

It does better in the warm valleys and produces bulblets. Left in the same spot for a couple of years it becomes a big clump of bulbs ad produces many flower scapes. Flowers from autumn through late spring and early summer. The delicately scented flowers are long lasting and can be used as cut flowers.
